Wildlife corridors are natural pathways that connect separate habitats, allowing animals to move freely between them. These corridors are crucial for species' survival, as they provide access to food, mates, and safe migration routes, especially in fragmented landscapes caused by human activities like urbanization, agriculture, and deforestation. By facilitating movement, wildlife corridors help maintain biodiversity, reduce the risk of inbreeding, and ensure genetic diversity. They also play a key role in mitigating human-wildlife conflict by directing animal movements away from populated areas.
As part of Urban Tiger Conservation Project, we are trying to understand the potential connectivity in the Central Indian Landscape. With Coalition for Wildlife Corridors, we created a Corridor Profile for "Ratapani WLS - Singhori WLS- Nauradehi/Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve". Now with Support of Wildlife Trust of India under Green Corridor Champions Program we will be "Assessing structural and functional connectivity of Kheoni WLS to Ratapani WLS connectivity".
